The release of a recent research has resulted in the government being asked to make dental care more affordable in the country. Apparently, a dentist has reasoned that people face a lot of oral health problems after retirement.
The New Zealand Oral Health Survey has stated that 35% people do not seek treatment for dental decay, while one-third people do not seek care for gum diseases. The study carried out involved the participation of 5,000-people.
Asking for improved accessibility and affordability, Dentist Dr. Alex McIntosh said that people did not seek oral healthcare treatment because of the high costs involved. He informed that it is mostly retired people who faced problems like gum diseases, which makes it tougher for them as costs involved in receiving dental care are very high.
Dr. McIntosh has requested authorities to make dental care a lot cheaper and has felt that the situation of untreated oral ailments can be sorted out if costs are reduced.
Meanwhile, people can reduce their chances of developing dental problems by making regular visits to a dentist. It is a known fact that people who seek dental care more often are less likely to suffer from problems that require costly treatments.
