Protein that Stalls the Spread of Tumours Found

Protein that Stalls the Spread of Tumours Found Scientists have been able to make a discovery, which can very well change the way cancer is treated in the world and can pave the way for new strategies to improve the level of care for patients. Apparently, experts have discovered a compound that is released by tumours before they are likely to spread to other parts of a person's body.

Apart from that, scientists have been able to find a protein that might be able to counteract this protein, by using it on labs rats. The latest development means that this new mechanism can help in reducing the spread of cancer and make it far less fatal.

The new discovery has already been published in the publication known as the Journal of Clinical Investigation. Meanwhile, experts at the National Institutes of Health and the University of Hong Kong have announced that they will be working on the counteracting protein, CPE-delta N, to develop new tests and remedies.

According to an official with the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Y. Peng Loh, the compound is present in large amounts in primary tumours that start to spread. Following the release of the compound cancer cells spread to other parts of the body through the blood vessels of an affected person and finally form tumours in other parts of the body.

The new finding is of immense significance, as the spread of a tumour usually results in the death of patients.
