A recent study, with the title “The Case for a Global Ban on Asbestos”, was conducted in 2010 to highlight the connection of Mesothelioma to asbestos exposure.
Mesothelioma is a very rare form of cancer which is quite dangerous in nature. It directly attacks the lining of crucial organs in the human body like the lungs, heart and abdomen.
Even if asbestos has been banned in more than 50 countries but still data suggests that around 125 million people consume it every year.
The study explains that even if workers were exposed to it in a limited manner, 7 out of 1,000 workers are likely to die because of asbestos-related disease in their lifetime. It discusses the cases of people from mining communities like Libby and Montana, who are highly exposed to asbestos, developed complex respiratory problems.
Experts suggest even if asbestos is present in the environment, it makes you prone to the risk of developing mesothelioma as in California, people reported asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma, when asbestos was found in the environmental conditions.
It has become very crucial to ban the usage of asbestos in the whole world because scientists believe that if we could put a halt on its usage then its effects will drastically get minimized otherwise it is expected to cost more than 10 million lives before getting banned worldwide.
