Motorola’s Super Bowl commercial tried to portray its Xoom tablet in a better position then Apple’s iPad. Motorola Xoom Super Bowl commercial poked fun at Apple users by challenging Apple’s “1984 ad”.
In “Empower the People” commercial, Motorola portrays the Xoom as a tablet computer that is capable of creating a better world. The commercial shows silent office workers, fully clad in white jumpsuits. Then, a man dressed in black and grey suit comes with a Motorola Xoom tablet in hands.
The man makes use of the Xoom’s capacitive touchscreen by flicking via George Orwell’s 1984 and navigates around the town using Google Maps in 3D. He also makes use of the device’s rear-facing camera, which is missing in Apple’s iPad.
In 1984, Apple had unveiled its Macintosh computer. The 1984 ad was one of the most iconic videos used for unveiling new products. Thus, Motorola decided to challenge Apple by bringing back Apple’s own images.
Speaking about the commercial, David Polston from Motorola said, “We’re playing homage to what is said to be the greatest Super Bowl ad of all time.”
Separately, a Best buy commercial shows the Xoom with a price tag of $799.99 and a February 24 launch date.
