Restrictive Diet found to be More Beneficial for Children with ADHD

Restrictive Diet found to be More Beneficial for Children with ADHDA research that has recently appeared in the publication known as the Lancet has stated that children suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are more likely to benefit from a controlled diet. It has been stated that the children will have an improved behaviour, apart from needing no medications at all.

The study was carried out by researchers from the Nijmegen Medical Centre at the Radboud University in Netherlands. It was found that around 75% children, who received the restrictive diet and were suffering from ADHD, were less likely to show signs of the condition. It was reported that these children did not show the usual hyperactive and impulsive traits usually found in children with the condition.

Though, it has been warned that the diet is a little too restrictive, which is not good for the overall health of children. Apparently, the diet consists of just water, white meat, rice and vegetables.

According to experts for the website, MyHealthNewsDaily, the diet might result in children developing other behavioural problems. It will be like children fighting with their parents for food that they are not allowed to consume.

The diet has been named as the Restricted Elimination Diet (RED).
