Dell, one of the world's leading PC makers, announced that it would launch a Windows 7 OS-based 10-inch tablet for business users later this year.
Dell made the announcement during a press event in San Francisco on Tuesday. The company did not reveal any specifications of its potential Windows tablet, except stating that it would come equipped with Intel’s next- generation processor.
Vice president Steven Lalla, of Dell’s commercial client product group, said that businesses would like Microsoft’s Windows operating system for the simple reason that it efficiently fits into the IT management scheme.
During the event, Dell also introduced twenty-four systems for business users, including PCs, laptops and workstations.
Dell introduced new PCs as a part of its efforts to attract its core customers, who come mainly from the corporate world. More than 50 per cent of Dell's $52.9 billion annual revenue comes from PCs, with the major portion of that coming from corporate world.
Figures released by research firm Gartner claims that Dell's PC shipments jumped 3.9 per cent in the final quarter of 2010.
