Ministry of health is in news for its Bureaucratic tapism, once again. As per the reports, Health Minister Tony Ryall had announced $24.38 million to construct the first part of the board's master site project for Wakari and Dunedin Hospitals. Adding to the woes, Southern District Health Board has to shell out more money to support the capital work.
In the wake of rising concern, site development manager Warren Taylor expressed this as mockery of system. Probing further, the board staff reportedly claims that government cannot afford extra financial cost of hiring architects and engineers.
Contrary to the statements of board members, the speculation is rife that board has not been able to complete the layout of the project. Amid this cross firing, the 16-project redevelopment of Wakari and Dunedin Hospitals is expected to take another 6 years to complete
Confirming the secret discussion between the official of the board, Mr. Taylor reportedly claimed that the project would be completed by September, if the issue is resolved by next month.
Though the actual figure of escalated cost was not revealed, the board has reportedly indicated that the extra cost would be applicable for Wakari Hospital lift upgrading and the redevelopment of the Wakari Hospital conference rooms.
Responding to the strictures, Mr. Ryall claimed the delay in funding approvals as the root cause of delay in project and assured that money would be soon released.
