Apple released a software update for iPhone 4’s on the same day of the smartphone’s release on the Verizon network. The update free software update is available to fix and resolve a bug affecting the precision of Personal Hotspot data reporting, to Verizon iPhone 4 users through iTunes. As Verizon had to recoup up to $90 million in erroneous “data usage” charges to its customers last October, the update is believed to be an effort by Apple and Verizon to deflect any such form of billing errors due to the bug.
The Personal Hotspot WiFi tethering plan from Verizon is priced at an extra $20 per month for 2GB data with every additional GB costing $20; however the plan supports a good five number of WiFi devices.
According to one report that referred the update notes as "laughably short" lines, the Verizon iPhone 4 released the unpretentious lines on Thursday having received record preorders last week.
The release notes issued officially by Apple on Thursday coincide with the launch of the CDMA iPhone 4 however the update iOS 4.2.6 was initially, in January, could be directly downloaded for review units. The notes specifically said that, for Verizon iPhones, iOS version 4.2.6 fixes the glitch to ensure accurate reporting of Personal Hotspot data usage.
