One Disease, Resistant To Other! It was on Friday that the health Department of Hong Kong, Health’s Public Health Laboratory Services Branch announced that there was the detection of a strain of A/H1N1 Flu Virus, which resisted Tamiflu.

It was in a routine check that this virus was identified. "This is the ninth case of Tamiflu resistance to A/H1N1 flu virus detected in Hong Kong", they said.

The virus had been detected from a little girl. She came for a checkup for Fever, cough, running nose and sore throat. She was admitted to the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital on Feb. 2. She was released from the hospital the very next day with stable health.

Her sample was taken and it appeared that she came positive for HSI virus. This had made her sensitive to Relenza but resistant to Tamiflu.

The case has been the first of its kind hand has been brought to the notice of World Health Organization.

"So far more than 6,700 A/H1N1 flu virus samples have been tested for antiviral sensitivity in Hong Kong," Said the Spokesman of the Health system in Hong Kong.
