7 Member Panel to Advise State Government on Population Growth Appointed by Blig

A 7 member panel has been appointed by Queensland Premier Anna Bligh, which will work with the State Government and advice on population growth, right before the summit which is scheduled for March of the coming year. Population growth, stressed Ms. Bligh, will be an important discussion issue at today's Council of Australian Governments meeting which will be held in Brisbane.

At the talks, PM Kevin Rudd and Treasurer Wayne Swan, along with various other state and territory leaders, will meet to discuss main factors and issues which are currently governing the country. The State Government will then hold a summit in March end to further discuss the issue of population growth.

"This high-powered group will be advising the Government on the development of that summit and putting forward ideas that are concrete, real and practical, so that that summit will actually generate actions that can help manage our growth", shared Ms. Bligh.

The prestigious panel includes scientist Tim Flannery, Bernard Salt, who is a demographer, Australian Industry Group's Heather Ridout, Ian Lowe from the Australian Conservation Foundation and renowned architect Michael Rayner.

Some member of the panel will be paid for their time and contribution.
