Over 5,000 Teenager Last Year Had Repeat Terminations

Latest figures released by the Department of Health have revealed a worrying discovery that over 5,000 teenagers across the country underwent their second abortion during the last year alone, which means that about 1 in 20 youngsters who got pregnant, ended it with either a second, or further, repeat abortion.

The latest figures have put the Government's "teen pregnancy strategy" been more under concern and controversy, which has not only failed to curb the rate of teen pregnancies and abortions, but have actually recorded a rise in these. Critics have accused the ministers of increasingly relying on abortions as the only way to deal with teen pregnancies, which has led to repeat abortions becoming common among the youth of the country.

As per the figures, in 2008, there were as many as 5,218 repeat terminations among girls who were under the age of 20 in England, and among the 20-24 age group as many as 15,029 women got a repeat abortion.

"There is an enormous amount of evidence to show that efforts to provide young people with contraception in an effort to reduce numbers of pregnancies only lead to more and more abortions. It means that young women are more prepared to have sex because they know they can always get an abortion", said Phyllis Bowman, of the Right to Life group, while slamming the Government's current way of dealing with the issue.

In wake of the alarming figures, authorities are now looking for ways to curb the abortion rates and approach the issue in a new way.
