Sony Ericsson unveils Xperia Play phone

Xperia-PlaySony Ericsson unveiled its PlayStation phone, the Xperia Play, which is capable of making and receiving calls as well as delivering 3D-capable mobile gaming.

The Xperia Play comes equipped with a four-inch capacitive multi-touch screen with a resolution of 480 by 854 pixels, a slide-out control pad that features buttons similar to those on Sony's PSP.

The 175-gram device has 1GHz Scorpion ARMv7, 5.1-megapixel camera, 400MB of in-phone memory along with 8GB microSD card.

The device runs Google’s Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system. Its battery promises a gaming time of 5.5 hours.

The Xperia phone is expected to be available in April in the United States, on the airwaves of mobile phone operator Verizon.

Sony Ericsson claims that it has partnered with some of the well-known gaming publishers in order to offer titles through the Android Marketplace. Need for Speed, Sims 3 and FIFA game, Guitar Hero, Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed will be delivered to the Xperia Play users.
