Chip manufacturer on Monday released its latest and fastest six-core desktop processor, called the core i7990X Extreme Edition.
The core i7990X Extreme Edition belongs to LGA 1366 Extreme Edition Family, and features six 3.46GHz cores and twelve processing threads. Being equipped with Intel’s Turbo boost technology, it can be overclocked to 3.73GHz and more.
The new processor draws 130 watts of power. Its clock speed along with 12MB of cache could attract hardcore gamers, media artists and 3D artists.
Intel and rival chip-maker AMD frequently up the ante in desktop chip performance to grab the performance crown.
The six-core i7990X Extreme Edition has been created using the old Westmere architecture. It is worth mentioning here that the new chip is not affected by design error that affected Intel’s Sandy Bridge chip set.
Intel has priced the new processor at $999; however, some retailers are listing it with a price tag of around $1049.99.
