Cholesterol Levels May Vary from Place to PlaceA new has found that Cholesterol level of Australian’s depends greatly on where they live. The research was conducted by Heart and Diabetes Institute, Baker IDI and was funded by a drug company, AstraZeneca.

In this study doctors analyzed almost 200,000 GP consultations to the patients with the problem of cholesterol. It was found that one in three patients had less than ideal total cholesterol and more than half had high levels of bad cholesterol.

Professor, Simon Stewart, who was the author of this report claims that the study has found a small increase in the cholesterol level of people across Australia.

The researchers have found that the cholesterol level varies from state to state but the reason of this variation is unclear. The highest cholesterol levels were found in the people of Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia whereas the lowest levels were in Queensland and the ACT.

The possible reason of this variation could be socio-economic differences or variations in healthcare management services.

Doctors have recommended the patients to reduce cholesterol level by dieting, exercising and if required, by cholesterol-lowering drugs.
