Smartphone manufacturers hope to expand in developing countriesAs the smartphone market in developed countries like the United States is nearing saturation point, smartphone manufacturers are hoping to stretch their feet in the in Asian and Latin American countries.

Growth recorded in the smartphone markets outside the United States is providing a big boost to manufacturers’ hopes. The London-based research firm, Wireless Intelligence, claims that four out of five new mobile phone subscribers are from developing countries.

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, all the smartphone manufacturers introduced their products with a hope that they will be able to enjoy a chunk of the international market.

Chinese and Latin American mobile phone carriers are optimistic about the industry's future.

China Mobile has a room to expand further by reaching people who do not have a cellphone.

Speaking on the topic, China Mobile chief executive Wang Jianzhou said, "We see huge net additions in rural areas, although penetration has passed 100 percent in urban areas.”

On Tuesday, China Mobile said that it has 590 million subscribers, but merely 90 million of them possess smartphones. The low percentage of smartphone owners represents a good opportunity for them to attract more users towards smartphones.
