A scarcity of nurses trained with specialties in hospitals throughout Idaho has been reported. The state labor officials did not expect the scarceness of trained nurses this early. The shortage has mainly been reported in the pediatric intensive care, operating rooms, coronary care, neonatal and the intensive care.
The reason for the shortage seems to be the high dissatisfaction rate of the nurses working in hospitals and nursing homes. When the health benefits and retirement benefits nurses working in corporate settings gets are compared they feel even more disheartened. In a research done recently it has been confirmed that 41% of hospital nurses were dissatisfied with the health care benefit and 50% were dissatisfied with the retirement benefits.
The nurses believe that with the current conditions, it becomes impossible for them to provide superior eminence and safe care.
In the category of nurses providing direct patient care 24% working in hospitals and 27% at the nursing homes has reported dissatisfaction form their current jobs. Only 13% of the nurses working with public and community health, ambulatory care and other non-institutional environments have shown any kind of dissatisfaction with their job.
The government should take an action before it is too late.
