It consists of Valentine’s Day, Heart Health Awareness Month, the famous FebFest and now the noble initiative, FebFast. The name is quite intriguing as it basically involves staying away from alcohol for the whole month.

Prior to observing FebFast, many people had opined that it would be, quite a difficult task to stay away from festivities for the whole month, but it seems like the decision has proved to be easy for a lot of the participants.

Marijke Preston and Eloise MacLeod are among those, who have resolved to stay away from alcohol. Talking about their initiative, the two speak in a chorus that giving up alcohol for a month has been a lot easier than they had thought earlier.

Apart from them, a number of Kiwis have participated in the initiative launched by the Drug Foundation. According to the information available on FebFast’s website, people participating in the fundraiser have been able to raise an astounding $64,000 with donations expected to cross the six-figure mark.

Talking about the impact that quitting alcohol for a month has had on her, Marijke Preston, said that observing the FebFast has helped her in having more productive weekends than usual. Though, she does admit that she has been look at with scorn by a number of friends, but their disapproval will not affect her resolve to go alcohol free for the month.
