On Monday, February 14, Chinese radio communications networks faced disruptions due to powerful eruption on the surface of the Sun.
Experts warn that the Monday’s solar storm showed a just tiny fraction of the Sun’s real potential. Solar flares are strong bursts of charged particles which hurls waves of photons toward Earth.
Speaking on the solar flares, Richard Binzel from the MIT said, “These are the kind of events that happen periodically with the sun sending streams of charged particles towards us here on earth.”
The strength of these waves is classified into three categories: Class C, Class M and Class X. The most powerful flares are Class X.
A massive solar storm can let lose mayhem on a worldwide scale by disrupting communications systems for quite a long time, jeopardizing the future of satellites and astronauts in the space and hurting power grids on Earth. Overall, it will leave the world to suffer damages worth trillions of dollars.
As the Sun has become more active during the past several months after completing its quiet period in its eleven-year weather cycle previous year, experts expect the future solar eruptions to be more disastrous.
In the past also, monster solar eruptions took place several times, but at that time man was not as dependent on the high-tech equipment as he is nowadays.
