Life became standstill for the Kopka family when head of the family, Mr. Keith Kopka diagnosed with ALS, better known as ‘ Lou Gehrig's Disease’ that has no cure.
According to the ALS Association, it is a progressive neurodegenerative disease in which nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord get affected. Gradually nerves which are connected to the brain stop working and they cannot send any more impulses to the body muscles resulting which the whole body become numb and cannot move.
According to Megan Kopka, wife of Keith Kopka, when doctors informed the family that Mr. Kopka’s diagnosis result show that he is having ALS, then the family was shattered. Family members were in a fix, thinking what to do next and how to survive further.
According to the patient, Mr. Kopka, it is unfortunate and very frustrating to live rest of life bearing such a disease. There is no other option left except praying to the almighty for a better tomorrow.
He added that every morning when he wakes up he has a doubt whether he will be able to walk he get scary thought of having a completely paralyzed body which cannot do anything.
The Kopka family is thankful to the community people who are doing their best to support them. Mr. Kopka who had been a professional chef decided to continue cooking as long as his body allows him and his wife will take care of family and construction work and this way they will fight back.
