The Huffington Post, one of the most acclaimed news sources on the Internet, was recently acquired by AOL in a cash & stocks deal worth $315 million.
The popular site co-founded by Arianna Huffington and Kenneth Lerer in the year of 2005. It may be noted here that 2005 was the year when Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. had acquired MySpace in a deal worth $580 million. At that time MySpace was a trashy, gaudy and hot site. But, the site gradually lost customers and advertisers.
All of AOL’s editorial content will now be overseen by Arianna Huffington, who will act as the president & editor-in-chief of the newly created Huffington Post Media Group.
In other words, Arianna Huffington will control AOL’s local, national and financial news operations, along with other entities like Moviefone and MapQuest.
In the meantime, a few heated HuffPo bloggers have created a Facebook page with a title "Hey Arianna, Can You Spare a Dime?", to ask Arianna to share some of the money with the unpaid writers who contributed to build the Huffington Post.
