New statistics show that the UK’s traditional high-street brands are replacing dot com brands to grab ranks among the top 50 online companies.
Figures compiled by Nielsen & UKOM shows that 35 of the top 50 UK web brands are now social media or traditional brands.
Brands traditionally associated with high-street such as John Lewis and Argos have found ranks among the top 50 web brands in the UK. Amazon and eBay, whose businesses depend upon people purchasing goods offline, grabbed ranks in the top ten positions.
On the other hand, dot com businesses that once dominated the web, such as Freeserve, Kelkoo, Friends Reunited and LastMinute, failed to secure any spot in the list of top 50 web brands.
Speaking on the findings, research firm Nielsen said, “The online world is increasingly reflecting the offline world, with the web’s 50 most-popular brands consisting more than ever of businesses established in the real world.”
However, the top five spots remained dominated by web names, including web search giants Google and Yahoo.
