Nintendo 3DS launched in Japan

Nintendo 3DS launched in JapanBig swarms of Japanese gamers hit stores on early Saturday to grab Nintendo’s much-anticipated glasses-free 3D-enabled game player- the Nintendo 3DS.

Nearly 2,000 gamers queued outside Akihabara-based Yodobashi Camera store to be the first to get hold of the hand-held game console. Several people spent the night in front of stores ahead of the Device’s morning launch.

The Nintendo 3DS, which has been launched in Japan ahead of its global release, features an accelerometer-based motion detector and built-in cameras that allows users to capture 3D pictures. In addition, the device lets users to play game in both 2D and 3D.

Commenting on the new device, Hiroshi Kamide from J. P. Morgan in Tokyo said, "It is the most comprehensive handheld gaming device from Nintendo to date, with high-quality graphics and online features. I believe the 3DS will be the first mass-market 3-D device."

Japanese gamers will be able to play eight titles, including nintendogs+cats, Street Fighter IV 3D Edition and Winning Eleven 3D Soccer, which are available at launch.

In Japan, the Nintendo 3DS has been priced at 25,000 yen ($300). Gamers in Europe and the US will get the device for around 250 euros and 250 dollars, respectively, when it will become available on March.
