University of Otago Signs Contract for Revolutionary GelThe University of Otago and the US based Medtronic have recently signed a deal that will come as a big relief to people planning to undergo sinus surgery. Medical technology Company Medtronic has apparently purchased a patent of a medical gel application that helps in healing wounds after a person has undergone sinus surgery.

The gel was created in a collaborative effort between the University of Otago, the University of Adelaide and a Wellington based Company called Robinson Squidgel. The revolutionary gel will help in bringing down the number of complications after people undergo the procedure.

The deal was struck by a team consisting Professor Brian Robinson of the Chemistry Department, Otago University; Prof. Peter-John Wormald of the University of Adelaide and Mr. Simon Robinson of Robinson Squidgel Ltd.

Apart from that, the commercial arms of the two universities, Adelaide Research and Innovation of the University of Adelaide and Otago Innovation Ltd of the Otago University.

The project had kicked off around half a decade ago and was basically aimed at resolving post-operative challenges. It is also a result of a challenge that was thrown by Prof. Robinson to his father ENT surgeon Mr. Simon Robinson to come up with a solution to solve the problem of complications that arise after sinus surgery.
