Undiagnosed Dementia to Rise by 2021

Undiagnosed Dementia to Rise by 2021A recently conducted research has revealed that an estimated 8,600 people from Nottinghamshire might be living with undiagnosed dementia by the year 2021. The study happens to be a collaborative effort between the Alzheimer’s Society, Alzheimer Scotland and Tesco.

The three have penned down a map to ascertain the number of people suffering from undiagnosed dementia.

Talking about the need of detecting the disease early, Paul Dunnery from the Alzheimer’s Society said that an early diagnosis helps in providing sufferers with the right support. Apart from that, they can also be provided adequate information regarding their condition and how they should cope with it.

Among the people who have been misdiagnosed is Tina who died in 2008. The woman from Hucknall had lived with dementia for an astounding eight years. However, during the first two years, she was misdiagnosed with depression.

Talking about the experience of the first two years, her husband Mr. Jim Radurn informs that he did not understand what was happening to his wife. He informs that she had tried to commit suicide twice and that he was seriously frustrated.

However, after she was diagnosed with dementia they were able to get proper support and were able to deal with dementia better.
