Nintendo on Wednesday made some appealing announcements about its innovative 3D-enabled game console, the Nintendo 3DS, which does not require special glasses to enjoy 3D content.
In its keynote, the company said users of the new game console would be able to watch movies via movie-streaming service Netflix, which would be available from summer this year.
The company added that it would team up with network provider AT&T to provide 3DS users with free access to more than 10,000 WiFi hot-spots in the US.
The device will receive several new features in a software update which is planned for May. Nintendo eShop that will sell re-mastered 3-D Nintendo classic games as well as older Game Boy games will also be made available to the new game console.
The announcements, which were made at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), came ahead of the 3DS portable game player's US launch on March 27.
The Nintendo 3DS hit Japanese stores last Saturday and reported heavy sales. According to a research firm, Japanese retailer sold a total of 371,326 3DS units in just two days from its launch.
