A research was conducted by the National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service to have a check on baby formulas produced by Maeil Dairies. As a result the product was found constituting some bacteria’s that could cause food poisoning and other illnesses in humans. Skin infections and many other health complications are also among the illnesses of this bacterium.
This discovered bacterium is known as staphylococcus aureus bacteria, and is also called golden staph. After its detection in the Absolute Premium Plus-2 formula produced by Maeil, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government is requested by the state-run quarantine service agency to immediately extract all contaminated products from retailers’ shelves.
In addition to this, the consumers have been also asked to return the formula to stores or back to the manufacturer.
Further the provincial government is expected to toughen the administrative action against the maker of this product and to introduce a variety of measures to thwart such contamination in the upcoming times.
According to a special report, it was on 6th February, when the contaminated baby formula was produced in Maeil’s plant in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province. On that day a total of 49,774 cans of the formula were produced, out of which 37,714 cans have been already distributed across the country, and remaining 12,060 cans are still in the firm’s warehouse.
