According to a recent study on evolving sexual behaviors and preferences of Americans, more women than men are going for same sex encounters.
National Survey of Family Growth gathered the data of 13,500 men and women aged 15 to 44 and it suggested that more than half of young people under age 24 who have had oral sex did so before having vaginal intercourse.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention makes an estimate that there are more than 19 million sexually transmitted infections every year out of which 50,000 people are diagnosed with HIV infection.
Anjani Chandra, the lead author of the study and a health scientist at the National Center for Health Statistics, said that people tended to focus on vaginal intercourse, but they sort of forgot about other types of sexual behavior.
Bill Albert, Chief Program Officer for the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy opined that he was encouraged by this disclosure but the statistics indicating most youths are engaging in oral sex before intercourse might be nebulous.
In addition, he said, “For some young people, they're running the bases backwards. They used to go from more casual to more intimate, but that's not necessarily the case these days”.
