An Overnight Walk-A-Thon to Raise Money for American Cancer Society

An Overnight Walk-A-Thon to Raise Money for American Cancer SocietyCoweta County would be observing “Survivor Sunday" on March 13 which they believe is the time to honor cancer survivors and people who are grappling with this malignant disease.

It is a crucial part of Coweta Relay for Life and Coweta County Board of Commissioners declared this last week.

Annie Joe Berkowitz, Chairwoman for Coweta Relay for Life, as well as coordinator of the Coweta Cancer Support Group said that the organizers have mailed letters to local churches asking them to recognize the cancer survivors of their congregation on Sunday in the services, and to remember the families whose loved ones have finished their earthly battle.

Billie Cloudsdale, survivorship Chairwoman for Coweta Relay for Life said that one church she knew had its cancer survivor stand up and children passed them white carnations which were followed by handing carnations to families of those who died from cancer.

"The big thing about Survivor Sunday is the fact of being in the community and awareness”, said Cloudsdale. "I've used it as an opportunity to remind people to go and get their checkups, and remind them not to ignore possible signs of cancer”.

This event is going to be an overnight walk-a-thon and it is aimed at raising funds for the American Cancer Society.
