A report compiled by the NHS Confederation has reported some disturbing facts about healthcare in the UK. It was found in the study that almost two-third health bosses under the confederation paid more importance to saving costs rather than providing quality healthcare.
The shocking finding is a result of the government asking NHS heads to save a total of £20 billion over the next three years. It needs to be kept in mind that he NHS Confederation accounts for 95% of trusts under the NHS.
Employee unions have already sent out a warning that the NHS will witness an astounding 50,000 job cuts.
Talking about the results, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the NHS Confederation, Nigel Edwards, defended NHS bosses by saying that the health reforms were very challenging and that it was pretty obvious that trust heads will be concentrating more on costs.
Apart from that, 31% NHS bosses have reportedly said that saving costs was the most important part of their agendas. Meanwhile, 46% people involved in the survey said that providing quality healthcare was their priority.
Edwards further said: "Our members are focusing on this issue because they know that good patient care depends upon financial stability – the two are inextricably linked. I worry that there may be a significant finance problem coming down the track”.
