The debate of medical practitioners over the birth of premature babies has continued. Dr. Daphne Austin, a NHS official says that babies who are born after just 23 weeks of pregnancy or even before should be left to die. Such babies would suffer from torture throughout their life if they are born.
Experts say that 99% of babies born at 23 weeks of pregnancy or before suffer from one form of disability or the other. The doctors claim that premature babies are likely to suffer from major physical and intellectual disabilities.
The most common disabilities that 23 weeks old babies suffer involve blindness, cerebral palsy and deafness. The babies born between 22 and 25 weeks of pregnancy require regular intensive care.
Experts say that despite all the efforts and care of the doctors and nurses, only 9% of premature babies survive and leave the hospital while rest of the babies dies soon after their birth.
Doctors suggest that parents should take the right decision at the time of giving birth to the premature babies as this may result in painful procedures throughout life.
