James Robert Soyars Jr., a certified asbestos abatement supervisor in Colorado, has been caught disposing asbestos in an improper manner. He being the owner of Talon Environmental was fully aware of hazards that could be caused to the residents of Colorado by this act of his. But instead, he tried to violate the clean Air Act. As the act is a completely illegal act, the supervisor has been sentenced to six months of home detention and has also been slapped a fine of $435,477 as compensation.
Talon Environmental is an asbestos abatement Company and is basically hired for removing asbestos-contaminated materials from renovated buildings sites in Greeley, Aurora and Colorado Springs. And Talon Asbestos is a natural substance that is used for construction and manufacturing purpose but at the same time its prolonged exposure can cause lung cancer, asbestosis and malignant mesothelioma.
In this context, the Attorney of United States, John Walsh, said, “The improper handling of asbestos is a crime because even minimal exposure is dangerous. If asbestos becomes airborne, and if it becomes lodged in a person’s lung, the result could be cancer”.
It was on February 8, 2011 that Soyars was found guilty on two counts of malfunctioning with regard to deposit of asbestos-containing waste material at a synchronized waste disposal site. Instead, he stored the asbestos material at a Public Storage site and even failed to label those bags of asbestos materials.
