Previous research has reported that people suffering from obesity are more likely to suffer from depression. However, a recent research has stated that such people might benefit emotionally and physically by taking part in weight loss and diet programs.
Apart from such programs, people focusing on lifestyle changing habits were found to witness an improvement in depression. It needs to be pointed out that the link was basically related to the participation of such people in a program that would help their condition.
Following the study's conclusion, experts have opined that the most possible reason behind people witnessing an improvement in depression levels was because they had a better opinion of themselves. It was also opined by researchers that the possible reason behind people having reduced depression levels was because weight loss programs do provide a lot of social support as well.
The study will appear in the publication known as the International Journal of Obesity and was led by Dr. Anthony Fabricatore, who was with the University of Pennsylvania at that time. Though, Fabricatore did inform, "There may be a threshold value that once you lose a certain amount of weight, your mood's going to improve and losing more weight isn't necessarily going to make it better".
