Google announces website-blocking feature

Web search giant Google has announced a new feature in its search engine which will let users to customize search results and block sites they don’t want to see.

Google users will see a link, "Block all example. com results," below Google Search results. Clicking on the link will add example. com to the user’s blocked sites list. The user can of course unblock any site immediately in the "Manage Blocked Sites" link.

Announcing the new feature in a blog post, Google’s Amay Champaneria and Beverly Yang wrote, “We’re adding this feature because we believe giving you control over the results you find will provide an even more personalized and enjoyable experience on Google.”

The new feature will be available in English to all users of Chrome 9+, Internet Explorer 8+ and Firefox 3.5+ Web browsers.

However, some experts have raised concerns that people might use the feature to block their rivals’ websites to drag them further down in Google’s search ranking.
