There has been a major blow to the giants Sanofi-Aventis and Regeneron. This has come after the revelation that their novel investigational means aflibercept has not cleared a late-stage trial. This trial was for the treatment of a type of lung cancer.
This result has come after the testing of the drug on 913 patients. It was a very critical trial for the second line-treatment of NSCLC. The result showed that when this drug was used together with chemotherapy, it did not really prove to be a feasible solution. It did not really prove to be an effective solution to the problem.
According to the companies, they shall further conduct a detail analysis for the safety and the effect of the drug. The final result of the same is expected to be revealed in a medical meeting that is soon coming up.
According to Debashish Roychowdhury, the major at oncology department at Sanofi, it is going to be a very challenging and painstaking task in bringing out to the world a treatment for such complicated cancers.
