World Glaucoma DayAccording to recent study, it has been revealed that as many as 600,000 people in Ghana are suffering from the horrible disease of glaucoma. It is an eye disease that can even lead to blindness. The study is also of the revelation that if left untreated, as many as 30,000 people in Ghana are expected to go blind.

It is world Glaucoma day on the 12th of March and health authorities all over are trying their best to spread awareness among the masses so that the disease is eradicated. The theme for this year is “Glaucoma — Don’t lose sight of your family”.

It is a major endeavor to bring to the notice of the people, a disease that is growing all over. There need to be regular and effective eye checkups so that this disease can be detected. There is a need to treat these cases so that the patient’s eye sight can be saved.

Glaucoma is a disease that affects the optical nerve of the eyes. It is caused when there is an increased level of fluid pressure inside the eye. If detected at proper stage, it can be treated with the usage of drugs.
