The successor of original iPad, the iPad 2, brings 50 per cent faster browsing than its predecessor, reviewers say.
The iPad 2 comes equipped with the dual-core 1GHz A5 chip rather than the single-core processor that is found in the first-generation iPad. Apple claims that the dual-core 1GHz A5 chip offers up to 9X faster graphics.
Commenting on the iPad’s power, Anandtech said, “CPU [Central Processing Unit] performance... we found to be a healthy 50 percent faster than the A4 in the original iPad--at least in Web browsing.”
But, iosnoops said that each processing core of the A5 processor is clocked at a slower speed. It said the A5 is clocked around 890MHz instead of 1GHz.
Anandtech also admitted that the Motorola Xoom, which comes equipped with an NVIDIA processor and graphics, surpasses the new iPad in some browser benchmarks.
The iPad 2 hit the US store shelves on March 11. In 2010, Apple sold as many as 14.8 million iPads in just nine months after its launch. For the iPad 2, Apple is expected to ship around 30 million units in 2011.
