The increasing number of cancer patient has become a matter of concern for the country. Every year the deaths caused by cancer have been increasing. It has been seen that the main causes for the increasing numbers has been late diagnose, lack of awareness and the shortage to the medical facilities.
It has been confirmed by Dr Twalib Ngoma, the Executive Director of Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI) that if a person is diagnosed of cancer in an early stage, with the help of adequate medical facilities the patient can be saved. Even after knowing this most of the patients are not being saved as by the time the cancer is detected they are already in the critical stage.
Out of the 40,000 people diagnosed with cancer 30,000 patients die almost every year in the country. The main cause or the death is late diagnose and the lack of required medical facilities.
The number of people killed by cancer every year is much more than malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. Even after these known facts, the money spent on the treatment and the awareness of this decease is comparatively very less. It is time that the government realizes the threat from the disease and work toward the awareness and medical facilities required to fight cancer.
