All the women who suffer from localized type of breast cancer are treated either by lumpectomy surgery, radiation technique and tamoxifen. But according to the researchers, the most effective is lumpectomy surgery. The women who undergo only lumpectomy surgery are considered to be alive for more number of years than the others.
 
But according to a study it was found that whatever be the treatment, among the 2,000 women studied, approximately all were likely to die from other causes apart from breast cancer.
 
In the year mid 1980s and the early part of 1990s the NSABP revealed a final report which stated that apart from the lumpectomy, another treatment should be done which would implement a safe and an effective way to fight the cancer, especially the breast cancer.
 
“Now we can see the natural history of this disease in a large patient population over a period of up to two decades. These are landmark trials with mature data”, said associate professor of surgery Irene Wapnir, MD, Chief of Breast Surgery at the Stanford Cancer Centre.
 
The treatment in which a portion of the breast is removed is always in favour as it helps to preserve the women’s appearance and cure the cancer.
