On 9th December, the students of England took out a rally opposing the increase in tuition fees. From the group of students, a 20-year-old has been arrested by three Metropolitan Police officers. The case has been referred to IPCC and the police force now awaits the findings of the inquiry.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) stated that this boy breached a cordon during the rally for which he was chased and thereafter caught by the police men.
But during his arrest a conversation took place between the arresting officer and colleagues, which has further sparked into an inquiry. This conversation was recorded by an officer who was wearing a sound device. A group discussion among the police men was also recorded in this device which would now be further used as evidence.
The arrested boy suffered a chipped tooth, to which the IPCC is investigating that when and how this happened. In regard to the case, the IPCC's commissioner Rachel Cerfontyne said, "We are investigating a serious allegation that an officer colluded with colleagues to abuse his position by arresting a young man on false grounds. We will also be looking at the circumstances of how the man suffered a broken tooth during his detention".
