Women with Breast Cancer may Survive for years

Women with Breast Cancer may Survive for yearsA recent study by researchers compared the life expectancy and causes of death in women aged 67 and above. They analyzed two groups of women, one in which women were diagnosed with breast cancer and in similar way another group with women without breast cancer.

The study revealed that older women who are identified with early-stage breast cancer can look forward to live just as long as peers without suffering from breast cancer. The reason behind this could be the healthy user effect. Women diagnosed with breast cancer are more likely to have been screened for cancer in comparison to the women who aren't diagnosed. And at the same time, the cancer diagnosed women become more health conscious in other ways.

According to breast cancer researcher Dr. Elena Elkin, this is something really encouraging for the suffering women. She told the Reuters Health: "More of the breast cancers we find are very small and diagnosed at an early stage. For older women especially these cancers generally have a favorable diagnosis".

According to the report, in the U. S. more than 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year and this risk increases with the growing age of women.
