YouTube, Internet search engine Google’s video service, confirmed on Tuesday that it acquired Dublin-based video technology firm Green Parrot Pictures.
Founded in 2004, Green Parrot Pictures offers intellectual licensing and high-quality picture manipulation technology. Hollywood super-hit movies like "Lord of the Rings" and "SpiderMan" are some of the best examples that feature its video improvement technology.
Google's video technology director Jeremy Doig videos of the recent demonstrations in Libya were emotionally fascinating, but were jerky, blurry and unsteady. He added that the acquisition would enable YouTube to enhance the quality of blurry and unsteady videos at the time of uploading to the site.
However, the company declined to reveal the financial terms of the deal.
According to Doig’s claims, users from all around the globe upload 35 hours of video to YouTube per minute.
Green Parrot said it was excited to join YouTube, where it would work “to improve the online video experience for hundreds of millions of user worldwide on many different products, platforms and services."
Shares in Google shed 0.1 per cent to close at $569.56 in the after hours trading..
