Type-2 Diabetics and Heart Attack Sufferers at the Same Risk of Suffering a Heart Attack

Type-2 Diabetics and Heart Attack Sufferers at the Same Risk of Suffering a Heart AttackA recently conducted study has reported that men suffering from type-2 diabetes can easily determine their risk of suffering a heart attack. It was found by the researchers involved in the study that the risk of type-2 diabetics suffering a heart attack was equivalent to men who have previously suffered a cardiac arrest.

Findings of the study have already appeared in the 14th March edition of the publication known as the Archives of Internal Medicine; it is being hoped that the findings of the research will help in determining the risk of people suffering a heart attack.

Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, Texas A&M Health Science College of Medicine, Dr. Robert Scot III, said: "You don't want to give all these big, powerful, expensive medicines to every single person. Maybe we can tease out the group that would benefit more".

Previous research has already pointed out that type-2 diabetics are as likely to suffer a heart attack as people who have already suffered a heart attack. Apparently, the new research has indicated that the chances of type-2 diabetics suffering a cardiac arrest actually relied on the timing.

The study was led by S. Goya Wannamethee of University College of London, who had followed 4,000 men aged between 60 and 79 years old.
