Singaporeans Traveling Back from Japan at a Low Risk of Radiation: Experts

ExpertsDoctors have informed that people travelling back from Japan are at a low risk of suffering any radiations. It has also been announced that people who have gone through medical screening are completely free of radiation.

Talking about the number of people coming in for treatment, Associate Professor Suresh Pillai, a Senior Consultant at the National University Hospital, said that less than ten people travelling back from Japan had paid a visit to the six recently refurbished hospitals between Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Singaporean Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that anyone living outside the evacuation areas in Japan might not require any medical care, as the nuclear reactor mishaps have not had any adverse effect on their health. Though, Singaporeans living within the evacuation zones will have been advised to seek medical treatment.

He further advised returning travelers to take a bath before heading to a medical facility for screening. People going to a hospital for radiation screening will be questioned around the symptoms of radiation like vomiting, fever, diarrhea and will also have to undergo a blood test.

People coming to medical facilities for screening will be told about the results in a matter of one to two hours.
