The Substitute of Drug Avandia is ‘Actos’

The Substitute of Drug Avandia is ‘Actos’A recent research has found that the diabetic drug Avandia increases the risk of risk of heart failure and deaths in patients with type-II diabetes. The experts have advised the use of Actos to treat diabetes instead of Avandia. It has also been found that lesser heart problems are associated with the use of Actos as compared to Avandia.

The drug Actos, also known as pioglitazone, is used to control blood sugar levels in patients with type II diabetes and is considered as an effective treatment by Diabetes UK.

A recent study has shown that the use of Avandia, which is medically known as rosiglitazone, shoots up the rate of heart attacks, heart failure and mortality in patients with type II diabetes. The results have been concluded from 16 studies conducted on more 800,000 patients.

Actos is available in the market as an alternative of Avandia but experts fear that it may lead to fractures in women. Diabetes UK believes that patients of diabetes should be provided with more suitable options. The health care teams are required to evaluate the medications, which can cater individual needs.
