As a solution to the problem of swallowing Viagra pills, Pfizer Inc is about to launch a chewable version of the impotence drug in Mexico, which is Viagra's biggest market in Latin America after Brazil.
This pill would be known as Viagra Jet and scientists started developing it four years back in Mexico itself and its sale would commence from March 21.
Beatriz Romero, Pfizer's Marketing Manager in Mexico, said, "It's a new alternative for patients and doctors. The chewable format could appeal to patients, particularly those who can't swallow the tablets”.
A study published in the medical journal Revista Mexicana Urologia suggests that more than 6 million Mexican men suffer from impotence and around 60% of people grind tablets or open capsules to make the contents easier to ingest.
Pfizer has the market of 3 million Viagra tablets per year in Mexico and it also has one third of the market share in Latin America's second biggest economy.
Despite sales worth $55 million (34 million pounds) in 2010, it could never meet Wall Street's earlier hopes due to the competition from Eli Lilly & Co's longer-acting Cialis brand.
The firm is also planning to reduce its research budget as a number of Company’s patents were about to expire over next few years.
