Blue Shield Decides to Withdraw Proposed Rate Hike

Hospital’s Chief Executive, Darren Grayson has revealed that he could see no hope in retaining full maternity services at the DGH and Conquest Hospital. He believed that hospitals were unable to recruit right doctors, which suggests that maternity services needed a major transformation.

Inspectors have been criticizing hospital bosses about mothers receiving poor level of care in maternity units and campaigners are blaming managers for failing to find a solution to the deep-rooted staff problems.

A Spokesman from the independent health regulators said, “The CQC can confirm concerns have been raised with the Trust around the quality of services being provided to patients in A&E, the maternity unit and the wards. Inspectors identified insufficient numbers of staff to support proper patient care”.

Highlighting the appalling condition of patient care at both the hospitals, Mr. Grayson said that hospitals lack in proper education of trainee maternity doctors and agency staff which makes them unreliable and under-skilled.

He believed that unless a strategic solution is found, the situation of poor maternity care would remain pessimistic.

Mrs. Walke was of opinion that the trust was bound to retain full maternity services at both the DGH and Conquest and it was not a good idea to close down a school as they didn’t have enough staff.
