Colon cancer can be developed if fruits and vegetables is not consumed properly and smoking and big chunks of red meat is another reason of developing the disease.
 
The risk can be reduced by doing regular exercises and consuming a healthy diet. Regular colorectal screenings is another thing that people are advised to do to avoid the disease.
 
Virginia Department of Health data from 2004 to 2008 stated that across Virginia the highest mortality rates from rectal and colon cancer in Western Tidewater.
