Dukan Diet Catches on With Celebrities

Dukan Diet Catches on With CelebritiesA new fad diet may hit the United States in April this year. The Dukan Diet, developed by a 60-year-old French doctor Pierre Dukan, claims to help people achieve permanent weight loss while eating as much as they want. When someone is on this diet, they eat foods that are high in protein but low in fat. Dieters drink lots of water; eat a lot of oat bran, some vegetables, but no fruits. The exercise regime is only 20 minutes of walking each day and has a command to avoid the use of elevators. The diet does include some days where people can eat dessert and drink wine to make it bearable for them.

A number of celebrities have been using this diet, including Kate Middleton who wants to shed some weight before her wedding to Prince William on April 29. Her mother Carole Middleton also follows the Dukan Diet, and other celebrities include Jennifer Lopez, Giselle Bundchen and Nicole Kidman.

Despite celebrity support, a number of food agencies say the diet is dangerous. For example, the French Agency for Food listed it as one of 15 harmful and unbalanced diets, and it was labeled as one of the five worst diets of
2011 by The British Dietetic Association.

Dr. Dunkan plans to release his book in the United States in April.
