The purchase of Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile USA by network provider AT&T hasn't prompted Verizon Wireless to show interest in acquiring Sprint Nextel Corp.
Verizon Wireless' Chief Executive Daniel Mead said that the company had no plan to buy Sprint Nextel even as it would lose its top position in the US wireless market due to the potential merger between AT&T and T-Mobile USA.
Speaking on the topic, Mead said, "We're not interested in Sprint. We don't need them."
Mr. Mead's comments emerged following AT&T's announcement on Sunday that it had agreed to purchase Germany-based Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile USA in a cash & stock deal worth $39 billion.
The terms of the deal states that AT&T will give $25 billion in cash and $14 in stock to Deutsche Telekom to acquire T-Mobile USA.
Verizon Wireless' chief said that they would not oppose the deal, adding the company didn't want to be distracted from its aim of being the most profitable wireless operator in the US. It may be noted here that Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group.
