Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Blames Facebook for Anorexia

Franca SozzaniThe Editor-in-Chief of Italian Vogue, Franca Sozzani has blamed the social networking site Facebook for anorexia among teens. Most of the teenage girls who want to look lean and slender adopt unhealthy dieting due to Facebook and not because of fashion industry.

Anorexia is an eating disorder mainly practiced for the purpose of weight-loss but teens practicing the habit are unaware of the fact that it may lead to serious health problems. Anorexia may prove fatal in some cases.

Ms. Franca Sozzani says that teen girls try to imitate the fake models on Facebook and put their health on risk. She added that fashion models are naturally, long, lean and slender. They are not excessively thin or suffer from any nutritional problems because such models are rejected by designers.

A recent survey conducted by the University of Haifa in Israel supports the claims made by Ms. Franca Sozzani. The survey was conducted on 248 girls aged between 12 and 19. The results revealed that people who spend more time on Facebook are more likely to develop eating disorders and have negative body images.
